"Live
from The Archive:
HomeGrownRadioNJ Presents"
with Todd Mills
Wednesdays from 9pm-midnight
You're moving to the Garden State in one month. It's a
quiet evening, so you type the phrases "community radio
station" and "New Jersey" into Google. Poring
through pages of links leads you to a little Internet radio outfit
in rural New Jersey. (There's still such a thing as rural New
Jersey?) A look around shows you that they've got the right idea.
The playlists go every which way. You could fit in here. You've
done it before. (WRPI
- Troy, NY; WICN - Worcester, MA; Iowa City Free Radio -Iowa City,
IA) Certainly, you could do it again. So you write an e-mail and
take a meeting with the Big Cheese. You pass the audition.
The next thing you know, you have a show on Friday nights at 10pm, and you're going to do your damnedest to figure out how to
look both ahead and behind simultaneously. To that end, you'll
head all over the musical map - a little '80s new wave here,
a little '90s indie rock there. Don't forget the latest releases
and some nostalgic side trips. Squeeze in some hip-hop, techno or
jazz where it fits. Two hours later, a good time is had by all. We
might have even learned something as well.
All right, then. Shall we begin?
To sum up, All Over The Place comes in three different flavors:
1. The aforementioned Friday nights from 10pm-1am on this here Internet radio station.
2. Streaming Live365 broadcast - 24 hours
a day.
3. More-or-less weekly podcast - a portable version of AOTP.
All are available through the blog where pop and politics meet, The
Great Leap Forward - Please stop in and say "hi."
(Warning: AOTP-HGRNJ is yet another tentacle of the Rob Galgano
Media Octopus.)
